Its plethora of museums, historic sights, and prosperity of live performances, all explain why the city gets 16.3 million people per year, which makes it among the ten most popular tourist places in the nation.

The Freedom Trail

A 2.5 mi (4 km) walking tour of 16 historic websites that starts at Boston Common, goes through downtown Boston, the North End and Charlestown, finishing in the USS Constitution. Websites include the old State House, Faneuil Hall, Paul Revere’s House, and the Old North Church.

The Freedom Trail connects into the Boston Harbor Walk. The Freedom Trail is marked by a line of red paint or red brick at the sidewalk.

Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market, two of Boston’s earliest marketplaces, contain an excellent set of mainly tourist-oriented stores and eateries. Washington St Tremont St. Broadway is the undisputed centre of the theater world, but Boston’s Theater District is where most Broadway shows will start out and is usually the first stop on a show’s touring run. Resident shows also operate.
